Crypto lawyer: US SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda is likely to become the agency's next chairman

As Trump prepares to take office as U.S. President in January 2025, the crypto community is speculating on the most likely candidate to lead the SEC. Crypto lawyer Jake Chervinsky said on X Platform that U.S. SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda is seen as a strong candidate for the position. Uyeda is known for criticizing the crypto regulatory approach of current SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, who called Gensler's policies "a disaster for the entire industry" in October. Uyeda was appointed as a U.S. SEC Commissioner on June 30, 2022. He has consistently opposed law enforcement-driven cryptocurrency regulation, winning the support of industry advocates who seek a more collaborative approach. Trump promised to fire Gensler on the first day of his presidency, and Chervinsky said the likelihood of Hester Peirce taking the lead is "very low," adding that he doubts she is willing to take a leadership role at the SEC. Chervinsky also said that Trump may want to choose someone else instead of Uyeda to lead the U.S. SEC during his term.
