Lamina1, the metaverse project founded by Snow Crash author Neal Stephenson, announced on Wednesday that it will merge with Another World. Another World, a South Korean metaverse project originally built on the Kaia blockchain in 2022, will become part of the Lamina1 ecosystem.
Lamina1's parent company Open Metaverse Limited acquired Another World in an "all-token transaction," according to a statement. Lamina1 said that in the coming weeks, it plans to "migrate Another World's community of more than 500,000 token holders, investors, metaverse builders, developers and enthusiasts to the L1 ecosystem through token swaps and targeted onboarding designed to activate the community." Another World employees will join Lamina1 to work on "building the Lamina1 Hub platform."
Rebecca Barkin became Lamina1's CEO in early 2023. In addition to Stephenson, Lamina1's co-founders include Bitcoin Foundation co-founder Peter Vessenes. Lamina1's backers include LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Ripple.
