According to News.bitcoin, Dogecoin was recently attacked by a vulnerability that severely affected its node structure. The vulnerability is called "Dogereaper". It is reported that Sequentia developer Andreas Kohl crashed 69% of Dogecoin nodes using only an old laptop from El Salvador. Although this attack severely affected Dogecoin nodes, it could have been worse: ecash developer Tobias Ruck and another developer Roqqit have disclosed the vulnerability.
Tobias Ruck said that he first discovered this vulnerability while developing Doged (a replacement for Dogecoin Core) and found an unfixed segmentation fault in the original code when testing the ported code for their replacement software.
Tobias Ruck explained: "We will not tolerate node crashes. We have put a lot of effort into ensuring network security. This attack could have been much more serious. All important stakeholders, such as miners, exchanges, etc., have been patched long before the attack, which shows how important it is for us to act with caution."
