Stacks founder Muneeb Ali said in a panel discussion that the general consensus in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry is that Bitcoin is an old chain and you can't do anything with it, which is also reflected in the development community. It's only in the past year or so that this misconception has begun to change, as developers realize that, in addition to the challenges, you can develop on the Bitcoin chain.
Ali said: "Developers are returning to the mothership," and said that more and more people are aware that Bitcoin L2 and sidechains will play an important role in Bitcoin's future. He also believes that "Bitcoin needs L2 more than Ethereum because Ethereum is programmable at the base layer."
He added that as early as the Bitcoin era in 2013-2014, there was an idea that any successful experiment with a small blockchain would return to Bitcoin. At the time, some people regarded the then-immature Ethereum ecosystem as a testnet for Bitcoin. "It took a long time, but it's finally happening now," Ali explained, adding that Ethereum has effectively contributed more than five years of research and development results, saving Bitcoin project developers from having to spend another four or five years exploring what has already been discovered.
