According to the latest transparency report published by Coinbase, the total number of information requests from government agencies and law enforcement agencies around the world increased by 66% between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022, reaching 12,320, with more than 95% of the requests coming from law enforcement. Departments that deal with criminal law enforcement matters other than civil or administrative matters, including subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, and other formal legal process. In addition, the number of requests from the United States was the highest, with 5,304, an increase of 6% over the same period last year; followed by the United Kingdom, reaching 1,744. In total, about 80% of the requests came from the US, UK, Germany, and Spain, with Coinbase attributing the increase to the company’s expansion and “an overall increase in law enforcement and regulatory interest in the crypto industry.”
