Once you have bought your first crypto, you will start wondering how to transfer your crypto from one place to another, say from an exchange to a wallet. If you have not bought your first crypto yet, you can check out this step-by-step guide on purchasing crypto: https://www.coinlive.com/news/detail/?id=12282.
Why the need and hassle to migrate your crypto? Perhaps for safer security systems, better storage, more custody and ownership, and the likes? For practical purposes, this guide will show you how to transfer Ethereum (ETH) from one of the more popular centralised exchanges (Crypto.com) to a software wallet (MetaMask). If you have crypto, it is important to learn the ropes of how to transfer your crypto.
Do note that transfer times, transaction fees, withdrawal limits, address formats, and practical steps vary depending on the cryptocurrencies and the network.
1) Click on Crypto.com’s app and proceed to key in your password.
2) Select “Accounts".
3) Click on “Crypto Wallet” then “Ethereum".
4) Select “Transfer".
5) Click on “Withdraw".
6) Then select “External Wallet".
7) Select “Add Wallet Address".
8) For the ETH Wallet Address, you need to click on your MetaMask app then copy the address as shown. Then re-enter your Crypto.com app and paste the address in the “Ethererum Address”. Next, select the box that indicates “I am the owner of this wallet address". Your name will automatically be reflected.
Give your wallet a name; it can be anything, but it is preferable to name it something you will remember or reflects which wallet the crypto will be transferred to, i.e. MetaMask. Refer to step 9 for choosing wallet type.
9) Under “Wallet Type”, choose “Non-Custodial Wallet” and click “Done".
10) Once all details have been filled in, click “Continue".
11) Key in your password.
12) This is what you will see after setting up your wallet. Select it.
13) Enter the amount of ETH or selected fiat currency. Currently, the minimum ETH withdrawal from Crypto.com is 0.008ETH.
14) Click “Confirm".
15) Key in your password again to proceed with the withdrawal.
16) First, click on “Send” so a verification code will be sent to your mobile. Enter the code when you receive it. Next, go into the Authenticator app and copy the 6-digit code shown. In this case, the app is called “Authy”, a 2FA Authenticator App. Paste the generated code as well then press “Continue".
In this case, to transfer crypto from Crypto.com to MetaMask, you need to add the recipient MetaMask address 24 hours prior to transferring. Otherwise you will see a prompt when you attempt to transfer, “Whitelisted Address Too Recent: This address was added within 24hours, for security reasons please wait 24hours before withdrawing to this address.”
17) Your withdrawal request has been submitted. That does not mean the transfer is successful as transferring takes time.
18) Check your email. You would have received an email stating that your withdrawal request has been received. The pending status took around five minutes in this case.
19) You will receive the below email once the withdrawal request has been confirmed or is successful. You can then proceed to your MetaMask wallet to view the transferred ETH.
Keep in mind that you must have enough crypto in your balance before you can transfer them anywhere. To reiterate, there will be some transaction fees so do pay attention to that prior to confirming the withdrawal amount. Always be careful and thorough while selecting the address as one wrong selection can lead to a permanent loss of your crypto.
