Projects like Unbanked are collecting crypto donations for Toys for Tots this holiday season

This holiday season, fintech provider Unbanked will provide crypto donations to Toys for Tots, a program run by the U.S. Marine Corps that collects toys to distribute to disadvantaged children.

In a Dec. 2 statement, Unbanked said it would allow users to donate cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ethereum as part of a fundraising effort for Toys for Tots. Well-wishers have until Dec. 20 to send any amount of money to the project, which has given 604 million toys to 272 million children in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

However, Unbanked does not represent the philanthropic efforts of all crypto users. A project called Elf Token reported that it had received $41,200 for Toys for Tots as of Dec. 4, with a goal of raising $100,000 this holiday season. Additionally, The Giving Block, a platform that allows nonprofits and charities to accept donations in cryptocurrencies, currently allows donations to the toy collection project using a number of tokens.
