Foreword
As Oasys celebrates its second anniversary, we wanted to take a moment to look at the current state of blockchain in the context of the overall trends in the crypto world centered around Ethereum. In the midst of a strong season of strategic partnerships and new integrations, we are now announcing the Oasys Technology Roadmap, which is focused on growing and developing the entire ecosystem with an emphasis on "Applied Data Availability". Our goal is to achieve "Applied Data Availability" (continuity of assets) in the gaming industry, which will ensure that players' memories and records are permanently protected and preserved - a stark contrast to the current centralized gaming experience.
When we refer to game assets, we are referring to digital assets that players earn in-game, such as items, characters, equipment, scores, and achievements. In traditional web2 games, these assets are typically lost if the game stops. This results in a huge loss for gamers who have invested time, effort, and money in playing the game and building their assets.
Blockchain technology is the key to digital sovereignty. By leveraging the immutable and permanent nature of a decentralized ledger, Oasys can store these assets there, giving users more control and security in how they participate, trade, use, and interact with their assets. With this in mind, there are several challenges facing existing blockchains, which we address through our technology roadmap and approach.
Lack of application data availability, Layer 2 interoperability, and ecosystem scalability are three core issues that Oasys aims to address as it continues to independently evolve into a unified, scalable ecosystem.
Technical Challenges & Solutions
Application Data Availability (Continuity of Game Assets)
• Current Issue:Many Layer 1 blockchains, including Ethereum, are discarding Layer 2 data as they move to a modular architecture. While this approach promises to solve the division between different base layers, it brings a new problem – the lack of continuity of user assets. Oasys also faces the potential impact of this problem on the “game assets” generated by Layer 2.
• Solution:Oasys takes a new approach – by mirroring Layer 2’s “game assets” on Layer 1, we can provide permanent and continuous protection for user assets. If the Layer 2 data is discarded, user assets remain safe.
Layer 2 Interoperability
• Current Issue:In general, blockchains have difficulties transferring data and assets between different Layer2s due to limited interoperability. Similarly, Oasys, which has more than 10 running Layer2s, is working to ensure interoperability between different Layer2s (also known as Verses in the Oasys ecosystem).
• Solution:Oasys introduces cross-chain bridges, adopts common data formats, and standardizes APIs to achieve seamless interoperability between different Layer2s. Users can easily and securely move data and assets between various games on Oasys while retaining full control over them.
Ecosystem Scalability
• Current Problem:Building a unique ecosystem for each blockchain is a considerable challenge. In the Oasys ecosystem, Layer2 is deployed and operated by companies and game developers (third parties), linking ecosystem building efforts with business continuity.
• Solution:Our close collaboration with ecosystem partners and existing Layer2 operators is to provide them with the tools and resources they need to support ecosystem building and reduce technical barriers. The Oasys Verse Development Kit (Oasys VDK) allows enterprises to access high-quality Layer2 with pre-set ecosystem components for rapid development and deployment. This enables game developers to start projects faster and focus on content development, achieving ecosystem scalability.
Technology Roadmap
Since its inception, Oasys has been committed to solving the pain points of developers, gamers, and game companies transitioning from web2 to web3. Our strategy has always been committed to supporting the Oasys community and providing the infrastructure and tools they need to succeed. As we move forward, our efforts will still focus on expanding the integrations supported by Oasys and establishing more partnerships with established companies. At the same time, we will focus on the stability and expansion of the ecosystem to ensure that Oasys develops in sync with the dynamic blockchain space and keeps up with the trends and needs of web3.
Short-term (within 1 year)
• Standardize game asset specifications:Oasys will continue to work with ecosystem partners to standardize game asset specifications. This will enable consistency across different games and platforms, making asset management easy.
• Create use cases:We will create use cases for applying standardized game asset specifications in live games and provide examples of successful use cases to support developers and companies interested in building on Oasys.
• Provide Oasys Verse Development Kit (Oasys VDK):By providing a set of validated ecosystem components, enterprises can quickly access high-quality Layer 2 with preset ecosystem parts to reduce the time and resources spent on ecosystem construction and achieve ecosystem scalability.
Medium-term (2-3 years)
• Solve protocol layer issues:The short-term roadmap is the cornerstone of our medium-term work, which will focus on solving protocol layer issues. Specifically, implement a unique solution to mirror Layer 2 "game assets" to Layer 1.
• Achieve interoperability:We will develop standardized protocols to ensure interoperability between different Layer 2s, allowing users to seamlessly move assets and data between various games on Oasys.
• Provide developer tools:Oasys will provide developer tools that align with our vision and meet the needs of Layer 2, enabling developers to develop autonomously and further promote the scalability of the ecosystem.
Summary
Oasys is strengthening its collaboration with ecosystem partners, including wallets, DeFi, and blockchain developers, to achieve "application data availability" and ensure the longevity and continuity of game assets. In the short term, we will focus on standardizing game asset specifications and developing real-world use cases. In the medium term, our goal is to solve protocol layer issues to stabilize the ecosystem and promote the development and deployment of projects on Oasys.
The Oasys Technology Roadmap lays out our future plans and provides a blueprint for the steps we will take to protect user assets and build a strong blockchain gaming ecosystem. We will continue to work on developing the Oasys Chain, moving towards a future where users' gaming experiences are viewed as investments, not just consumption, and digital sovereignty becomes a tangible reality.
