Coinbase, on its part, has reportedly planned to launch three ads valued at $15 million in total to show the advantages of cryptocurrencies against the traditional finance system. The commercials are set to be broadcast on four channels during the NBA Playoffs in a bid to attract sports enthusiasts into the crypto space.
The ads, which include a uninterrupted 60-second and two 30-second ads, will air Wednesday during TNT, ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC. Basically, the purpose of the ad is to show and prove to the audience how complex the traditional payment systems are when compared to the smooth, cheaper, and fast crypto system.
The advertisement used pizza as a symbol of traditional finance and presented to the viewer the long journey it would go through if it were money. In the advertisement, pizza passed through approval and authority stages, and the narrator went ahead to say, "If pizza worked like this, you wouldn't like pizza.".
The commercial goes further and illuminates the risks of using fiat currencies and the traditional banking system. As the ad progresses from the scenes that ape credit card transactions, several people snatch slices from the pie. This symbolizes "what happens to your money whenever you spend it or send it."
As the door shows "surcharge," the pizza goes through it, and then the delivery boy picks it. The delivery boy will then tell the audience:
"We deserve a better system, easier, simpler, faster. That's the way crypto works.". Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad spoke to the "illusion" upon which contemporary public lives. He said,
"We're under the illusion that when we use credit cards or Venmo, things are happening instantly, but they're actually just part of very complex plumbing that's masked by a digital interface."
