Aboutone in five U.S. registered voters said they Cryptocurrency has been purchased.
Of the 19% of voters who said they had purchased cryptocurrencies,19% identified themselves as Democrats and 18% identified as Republicans, the poll found. 24% of cryptocurrency voters are independent voters.
The figure is in line with a December study by Grayscale, which found 19% of voters held cryptocurrency. Of this group, 23% are male and 31% are Gen Z.
“I find it misleading to say that 20% of voters own cryptocurrencies because they probably all only own token cryptocurrencies, so even if a fifth of the country owns People own cryptocurrencies, and they don’t care about cryptocurrencies or the policies that affect cryptocurrencies,” Paradigm policy director Justin Slaughter wrote in X on Thursday.
However, Slaughter added that the survey found that 6% of cryptocurrency holders hold assets worth between $1,001 and $10,000, indicating that there is a large group of people with a vested financial interest.
"In comparison, 32% of voters own more than $1,000 in stocks and 57% own no stocks," Slaughter said.
The investigation comes as cryptocurrency-focused political donors and super political action committees (PACs) begin ramping up allocations, and many of their bets are paying off.
Cryptocurrency super PAC Fairshake has targeted Rep. Katie Porter with ads and ads in California’s open primary for a U.S. Senate seat in recent weeks, according to Federal Election Commission documents. More than $10.1 million was distributed during the airtime.
Porter lost to California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff earlier this month, who will face Republican Steve Garvey in November .
Even as Paradigm’s data shows that political divisions are less important in the cryptocurrency space, the Republican crypto-focused Defend American Jobs super PAC has expressed its support for cryptocurrencies. Super PACs donate to most candidates. The group has spent about $4 million in recent weeks supporting four Republicans, documents show.
Paradigm conducted the poll through research firm Public Opinion Strategies. The poll of 1,000 registered voters was conducted between February 28 and March 4.
