Innovative Integration of Web3
Telegram, known for its robust privacy features and user-friendly interface, has made a significant move into the Web3 space with the introduction of its new in-app browser and Mini App Store. This development allows Telegram’s nearly 950 million users to access decentralized websites directly within the app.
Announced on July 31, the new browser supports "TON Sites," which enables users to explore decentralized web content without leaving the Telegram platform. This integration merges web browsing with messaging, providing a seamless experience for both mobile and desktop users.
New Features and Mini App Store
In addition to the browser, Telegram has launched its Mini App Store, offering a range of applications that can be used within the app. The store includes a variety of Mini Apps, such as Hamster Kombat, a crypto tap-to-earn game, and Catizen, a Web3 social entertainment platform. The Mini App Store has quickly gained traction, with over 500 million users engaging with these apps monthly.
Hamster Kombat has achieved rapid growth, reaching 300 million players in just four months. Catizen has also seen impressive success, gaining 26 million users and generating $16 million in in-app purchases, with a portion of funds donated to stray cat rescue efforts.
Integration with The Open Network (TON)
Both Hamster Kombat and Catizen utilise Toncoin (TON), the cryptocurrency of The Open Network. Toncoin’s value has surged by 467% over the past year, reflecting its growing acceptance within Telegram's ecosystem. The Open Network blockchain has also introduced the W5 smart wallet standard, which facilitates gasless transactions, making it easier for users to engage with the TON ecosystem without needing to purchase Toncoin initially.
Future Impact on Web3 and Social Messaging
Telegram’s integration of decentralized websites and expansion of its Mini App Store represent a significant step towards mainstream Web3 adoption. By combining web browsing and cryptocurrency with everyday communication, Telegram is positioning itself as a major player in the digital world.
These updates enhance user experience and promote the use of decentralized technologies, potentially driving greater adoption of Web3 solutions. Telegram’s latest advancements not only strengthen its market position but also contribute to the broader integration of Web3 technologies into daily digital activities.
