Hamster Kombat, a popular Telegram-based crypto game, is preparing for its HMSTR token launch, but recent developments have left many players disgruntled.
Over the weekend, the game’s developers informed players about the amount of tokens they could claim. However, there was an unexpected twist: players will only be able to claim 88.75% of their allocated HMSTR tokens on day one. The remaining 11.25% will be subject to a vesting period, meaning it cannot be accessed until July 2025.
Surprise Vesting Rules Cause Stir
This vesting rule was not previously disclosed to players, causing some dissatisfaction in the game's community. Although the HMSTR token, which is set to be minted on The Open Network (TON), won’t have a known value until it begins trading on September 26, players have expressed frustration online about their airdrop allocations and the sudden announcement of the vesting schedule.

Echoes of Catizen’s Airdrop Issues
The situation bears similarities to Catizen's recent airdrop, where players also encountered unexpected vesting periods. In Hamster Kombat’s case, complaints are further fuelled by dissatisfaction with the criteria used to determine token allocations. Players have pointed out that friend referrals and the earning of keys—introduced later in the game's development—were given substantial weight in determining airdrop eligibility.

Not All Players Eligible for Airdrop
Of the 300 million players who have participated in Hamster Kombat so far, only 129 million are eligible for the token airdrop. The game’s developers initially identified 131 million players for the drop, but around 2.3 million users were subsequently banned for cheating, leaving a reduced pool of legitimate recipients.
HMSTR Token Distribution Plans
A total of 60 billion HMSTR tokens will be distributed through this airdrop, out of a total supply of 100 billion tokens. Another 15 billion tokens are reserved for the upcoming second season of the game. In the meantime, Hamster Kombat has rolled out a simplified "interlude season" to keep players engaged until the full season is released.
