Telegram said in the blog:

“This decentralized platform for additional verification will help prevent scams and reduce misinformation — with a unique proactive solution that sets a new safety standard for social platforms.”

This decentralised approach aims to enhance transparency and curb misinformation by allowing verified entities to manage verifications via Telegram's Bot API, including granting or revoking verified status for affiliates.

Public figures and organisations seeking verification must meet updated criteria, such as maintaining active and notable accounts on platforms like TikTok or YouTube, possessing verified Wikipedia pages, or providing credible press mentions.

Applications are submitted through Telegram's @VerifyBot, aligning the process with contemporary standards for credibility and authenticity.

NFT Gifts Feature

Telegram has introduced a new feature allowing users to transform gifts into NFTs with customisable icons and backgrounds, powered by Telegram Stars.

These digital collectibles range from festive designs, like Santa Hats, to creative options like Homemade Cakes.

Users can purchase these NFT gifts directly within the app or via the Fragment platform, using TON wallets for seamless transactions.

Telegram noted:

“Gifts you receive on Telegram are now able to be upgraded to collectibles. Collectible gifts have special attributes and can be transferred to other users or auctioned on NFT marketplaces.”

The NFTs are tradable across various platforms, with Telegram charging a minimal fee to cover blockchain transaction costs.
