Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin (commonly known as V God) proposed the first block on the Taiko mainnet, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, today (25th) at around 3:03 PM as a block proposer.
On-chain data shows that V God left an encouraging message in the block:
"I am excited to see Taiko launch as a 'Based Rollup.' Ethereum benefits from L2s taking different approaches, and I appreciate that they are the first to move in this direction. — Vitalik, May 2024"
The same message also includes a statement co-signed by many others: "We believe that building a lasting network that serves the majority requires diverse perspectives. So far, every contributor to Taiko has played a crucial role in launching this network and is committed to decentralization as their primary driving force."
Pioneers of Based Rollup: Taiko
Taiko is an Ethereum L2 network based on zkRollup and is currently the only team developing a solution based on Based Rollup. Based Rollup is a rollup solution designed to address the limitations of Optimistic Rollup and ZK Rollup. It not only simplifies technical complexity and reduces transaction latency but is also the only solution that fully inherits Ethereum's liveness.
This week, Taiko announced its token economic model and simultaneously launched the genesis airdrop. Of the total supply of 1 billion TKO tokens, 5% will be allocated to the genesis airdrop.
