Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has converted another $1.6 million worth of memecoin he received into Ethereum, which he had previously pledged to donate to charity.
Blockchain analysis firm Spot On Chain noted in an October 13 X post that the sale included $982,800 worth of Moo Deng (MOODENG), $231,000 worth of Monsterra (MSTR), and $183,000 worth of ETHEREUM IS GOOD (EBULL).
Buterin also sold holdings in Popcat (POPCAT), Fwog (FWOG), and vitalek buteren (VITALIK).
Spot On Chain said on October 13 that he has now converted $2.78 million worth of memecoin into Ethereum and donated $884,000 worth of donations to charities in the past nine days.

Buterin praised memecoin issuers for sending him tokens for donations, but suggested they consider donating directly.
On October 7, Buterin said in the X post that he would donate all 10 billion memecoin tokens he received to an organization working on technology to combat airborne diseases.

On August 15, Buterin donated all of the animal-themed memecoin he had received in the past 12 months to the Effective Altruism Funds’ animal welfare fund.
More donations from Buterin are coming soon.
His $700 million cryptocurrency portfolio still includes $2.4 million in MOODENG tokens, $144,000 in Neiro (NEIRO), $117,000 in MSTR and $80,000 in Degen (DEGEN), according to Spot On Chain.
Buterin has long argued that memecoins can make a positive contribution to society by funding important public projects and even allowing people in low-income countries to earn a living.
Meanwhile, Buterin has slammed celebrity-themed memecoins that are designed solely to enrich celebrities and early investors.
Economists Tyler Cowen and Alex Tabarrok recently put Buterin’s name on their shortlist for the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics.
“Vitalik built a platform, created a currency, arguably disproved Mises’ regression theorem in the process, clearly following in Satoshi’s footsteps, but gosh, what does one have to do to win a Nobel Prize,” Cowen said during the pair’s Marginal Revolution podcast on Oct. 8.
Tabarok agreed, adding: “Not only that, but Vitalik continues to contribute to the mechanism design of Ethereum by adopting proof-of-stake.”
