Chinese actor Wang Xing, was mysteriously found 2 days after his disappearance at the borders of Myanmar by the local authorities.
The 31-year-old actor, also known by his screen name Xingxing, lost contract with his family and loved ones at Mae Sot, a Thai town bordering Myanmar, after arriving in the country for what he believed to be a television shoot.
Wang's girlfriend, known only as Jiajia, claimed that the actor had landed in Thailand, boarded a vehicle from Bangkok, before mysteriously going off the grid for the next four days.
After Wang disappeared, his family and friends went to the Chinese authorities for help, only to be rejected time and time again for multiple reasons.
Reports of his disappearance quickly spread on Chinese social media, with some users speculating he may have been kidnapped to work in a scam centre in Myanmar.
Wang describing his ordeal
In his interview with Thai authorities, Wang described how he was coerced by some armed men into a car after he was taken across the border into Myanmar.
He was then housed in a building where there were some 50 other people, and was prohibited from leaving. Wang also claimed that there were other large buildings, with people from many different countries.
Wang also described how the kidnappers forced him to shave his head, as "everyone needed to cut their hairs."
Thus far, Thai authorities have concluded that there was no involvement of any Thai nationals, and Wang was probably a victim of a scam by Chinese nationals.
Local authorities also added that the actor was being trained to scam other Chinese nationals, but he had not been assaulted.
Thai police will continue to investigate whether Wang had arrived in Thailand for work as claimed or if he had been deceived from the very beginning.
After his rescue, Wang also thanked the Thai authorities for escorting him to safety in an on-camera interview with Thai media and said that he believed Thailand is "quite safe."
Wang's girlfriend praised by netizens
The story also ended with a sweet ending, which is the heartwarming scene of Wang reuniting with his girlfriend upon safety arriving in Thailand.
On Jan 8, she posted on Weibo a photo of their joined hands, writing: "Love can fight anything."
After the whole ordeal, Wang Xing's girlfriend has been highly praised by netizens for staying level-headed throughout the whole incident, and for promptly providing key information to the Thai authorities, which resulted in the actor's quick rescue.
