The developers of the Open Network (TON) ecosystem have earmarked $5 million in Toncoin tokens to encourage users to verify their identity using advanced palm scanning technology.
TON Society, a group of developers and contributors expanding the TON ecosystem, plans to distribute 1 million Toncoin to users participating in the voluntary proof-of-personhood program. The initiative aims to facilitate digital identity verification for Telegram users over the next five years.
The program utilizes HumanCode's technology, enabling users to verify their human identity on the blockchain. The application, available on Google Play and the Apple Store, allows users to scan their palms using a smartphone.
According to details shared with Cointelegraph, the technology offers privacy protection and is hardware-agnostic, supporting the use of the scanner on various mobile devices.
Ekin Tuna, growth director at TON Foundation, noted that supporting proof-of-personhood protocols like HumanCode is a crucial step towards establishing a practical reputation system with real-world applications for TON's ecosystem:
"A scalable, private, and decentralized identity will help onboard the first one billion users to the Web3 ecosystem in Telegram."
HumanCode incentives will be awarded to TON Society members who complete a palm scan and verify their personhood. Ton Society membership is open to the public and is granted by linking a TON wallet to the community organization.
In March, the TON Foundation allocated 30 million TON tokens, valued at approximately $115 million, for various community rewards to drive adoption.
The incentives are divided into four categories: $38 million in TON for token mining and user incentives, $22 million for airdrops, $15 million for the League developer ecosystem, and $40 million for liquidity pool boosts.
The Telegram Ad Platform, operating on the TON blockchain, was officially launched in March 2024. The platform enables Telegram channel owners worldwide to receive financial rewards by exclusively selling advertising and sharing revenue with channel owners in TON.
