In Brief
- Solana Foundation's RPC endpoints are currently offline because of a bug.
- The blockchain network has continued to perform optimally despite the setback.
- SOL has risen by over 37% in the last seven days.
Solana Foundation-ran Remote Procedure Call (RPC) endpoints are offline because of a bug in the Validator client’s test release 1.14.
Solana Statussaid the bug impacted nodes that had adopted the latest test release. It urged those operating on the node to change over to 1.13.
Network Remains Functional
RPC endpoints are the nodes that connect decentralized applications and wallets to the blockchain. However, the incident did not affect the network, and block production is still happening normally. This is because the private RPCs by firms like QuickNode, Alchemy, and Triton are still available for use.
The Head of Strategy & Communications at Solana Foundation, Austin Federa, said the bug only impacted nodes run by the foundation. According to him, private providers are working fine.
Meanwhile, this is a welcome development considering the network’s history. Last year, Solana experienced 14 outages which lasted for an overall of 4 days, 12 hours 21 minutes. The last network outage in October 2022 was due to an issue with a node. These outages raised concerns among the community about its viability.
Solana Slowly Recovers From 2022 Nightmare
Meanwhile, the layer1 blockchain, which had a dreadful 2022, has started the new year in great form. Solana co-founder Raj Gokal, citing data from Artemis, tweeted that the network’s daily addresses beat that of major rivals like Ethereum, Polygon, etc., as of Jan. 5.
Its native token, SOL, has also seen its value increase by 37% in the past week, trading for $13.65 as of press time. The positive price performance is a welcome development for the network, considering it traded for as low as $8 in the final weeks of 2022. The digital asset has also climbed to the 14th largest digital asset by market cap as of press time.
Besides that, the Solana community appears to have rallied around a new memecoin that has taken the network by storm. The Bonk Inu token rose by over 1000% in the first week of 2023 and attracted more network activity. The token says it “represents the best of Solana.”
