Helium Mobile has launched a $5 unlimited mobile plan in Miami.
Through combining Miami's T-Mobile's 5G network with its open-source decentralised Helium Mobile Network, Helium Mobile has formed a unique coverage model.
This fusion enables Helium Mobile to offer an $5 per month package, inclusive of unlimited talk, text, and data, exclusively for Miami-Dade County subscribers.
For some users, this could mean a reduction of up to 95% in costs.
What is Helium's Decentralised Network?
A decentralised network, in the context of Helium Mobile's mobile plan, means that the network isn't controlled by a single big company. Instead, it's built by many individuals who set up small devices called hotspots.
These hotspots connect to each other and create a wide coverage area, like a big puzzle made up of small pieces.
This is different from traditional networks where a big company owns and manages all the connections.
In Helium's case, people who set up these hotspots can earn rewards, making it more like a community effort.
A good analogy would be like neighbors coming together to create their own internet service, just on a larger scale.
Helium Mobile's Dynamic Coverage
The core idea behind such cost-effective pricing is 'Dynamic Coverage.'
Helium Mobile leverages an individual-owned network, contrasting traditional corporate networks, resulting in significant cost reduction and nationwide service availability.
Nova Labs, the creators of Helium Network and architects of Helium Mobile, have deployed nearly a million hotspots globally. In the U.S. alone, there are over 8,000 5G hotspots in more than 1,500 cities.
