The DA topic has been very lively in the past two days. Celestia and NEAR Protocol are both going to be third-party DAs. The cooperation between NEAR and Polygon even claims that it is 8000 cheaper than Ethereum. Double the slogan!
8000x cheaper than Ethereum!

There is also EigenDA made by Eigenlayer within the Ethereum ecosystem, which is eyeing it.
Why is everyone so keen on doing the “DA layer”?
At this time, it is necessary to go back to the source and clarify the concept first. In fact, the execution layer, settlement layer, consensus layer, and DA layer all belong to the theoretical system of modular blockchain proposed by Celestia.
1. Execution layer
The execution layer is mainly responsible for processing transactions and executing smart contracts. The execution results are submitted to the settlement layer in the form of batch certificates, which only contain necessary information and do not include detailed data of the executed transactions. This effectively reduces the need for on-chain storage and computing and greatly reduces costs. PS: Rollups projects basically belong to the decoupling of the execution layer
2, the settlement layer
the settlement layer provides the overall situation The consensus and security model, including verifying the correctness of execution results, determines the final ownership of assets; and also includes recording and executing updates to the state of the chain itself: for example, token transfers or contract deployments. PS: I very much agree with Blue Fox Notes’ point of view. At present, only ETH and BTC have the opportunity to serve as settlement layers.
3. Consensus layer
The consensus layer is responsible for ensuring the current status of the blockchain for all participating nodes. reached an agreement. Manage and execute consensus rules to ensure that newly added transactions are correctly recorded and the "transaction sequence" can be agreed upon in the distributed ledger of all nodes.
4. DA layer
Responsible for ensuring data availability in the network. This enables transaction verification and execution to occur at different levels, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the system.
Why are you rushing to be the DA layer?
First of all, there are many execution layers, the settlement layer is useless, and the consensus layer will only be done after the DA layer is completed. Then, the DA layer is important, every layer depends on the DA layer. Finally, by replacing Ethereum as the DA layer, any high-speed public chain will have cost-effective advantages.
To put it simply, there is no confidence in making a settlement layer chain. The DA layer is a new round of small narratives, which are relatively reliable from a technical point of view.
