According to U.Today, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has intensified her disagreement with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, seemingly accusing him of profiting from gas fees. The rapper's comments, which displayed a lack of understanding of how gas fees work on the Ethereum blockchain, were met with ridicule within the cryptocurrency community. The comments were widely shared on the X social media network, formerly known as Twitter.
Adam Cochran, a partner at Cinneamhain Ventures, suggests that Azalea's misunderstanding represents a broader marketing challenge for the cryptocurrency industry. He believes that Layer 2 solutions (L2s) are the only way for cryptocurrency to achieve mass consumer adoption, as most consumers do not understand the technical aspects of the internet and rely on their Internet Service Provider (ISP) for connectivity.
Azalea, who gained mainstream popularity in 2014 with several chart-topping hits, returned to the spotlight in late May with the launch of her Mother Iggy (IGGY) token. The token surged more than 1,000% within a week of its launch. She later stirred controversy within the cryptocurrency community by mocking Buterin with a meme on her social media profile after he criticized her meme coin. Azalea seems unwilling to end the feud, stating in a recent podcast appearance, 'Maybe some people shouldn't have an opinion sometimes, but I respect that you made something. Don't get me wrong.'
