Payments giant PayPal has added Passkeys as a login method for PayPal accounts, allowing iPhone, iPad and Mac users on PayPal.com to log in without a password. The PayPal key service is currently rolling out to users in the United States, and will be available in other countries and platforms other than iOS, iPadOS, and macOS starting in early 2023. Foresight News notes that the keys, created by the FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium in partnership with Apple, Google and Microsoft, aim to replace passwords with bits of data called encryption key pairs, which consist of public keys stored in the cloud and local Composed of private keys stored on the user's device, these public keys are kept separate to ensure that compromised servers do not give attackers account access.
