Trump announced the appointment of two new figures as advisers on economic issues. Among them, former college football player Bo Hines will serve as executive director of the President's Digital Asset Advisory Committee, which Trump calls the "Crypto Council." Bo Hines won the Republican nomination for North Carolina's 13th Congressional District, but lost to his Democratic opponent in the general election.
Trump previously appointed David Sacks to be in charge of encryption and artificial intelligence issues in the White House, and mentioned in the announcement that Hines will work with Sacks.
Trump wrote: "In his new position, Bo will work with David to promote innovation and growth in the digital asset field, while ensuring that industry leaders have the resources they need to succeed. Together, they will create an environment for this industry to thrive and continue to be the cornerstone of our country's technological progress."
Hines received funding from a PAC that supports cryptocurrency in his 2022 congressional campaign. According to Business Insider, part of the funding came from former FTX executive Ryan Salame, who is currently serving a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges including conspiracy to make illegal political donations.
Also earlier on Sunday, Trump named former Treasury official Stephen Miran as chairman of his Council of Economic Advisors.
