Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z Team Up on Bitcoin Brooklyn Educational Initiative

Legendary NYC hip-hop artist and producer Jay-Z has teamed up with Cash App founder Jack Dorsey to launch The Bitcoin Academy, an educational program that promotes a democratic vision of "education is power."

Offered exclusively to residents of the Marcy Project public housing complex in New York City, the program will begin June 22 and run through September 7, with options for in-person and online participation. The free education program is designed to enhance access to financial information and promote opportunities for inclusion.

Taught by educator Lamar Wilson of Black Bitcoin Billionaire and Najah J. Roberts of Crypto Blockchain Plug, specific details of the course are currently scarce, but themes surrounding the necessity, utility and vision of Bitcoin and general financial literature are expected of.

Children ages 5 to 17 are also encouraged to attend "Crypto Kids Camp" at two events on Saturday, while adult participants will receive portable WiFi hotspot devices, a year's limited data plan and a smartphone (if required) if).

Dorsey said he was inspired by the results of bitcoin initiatives supporting small segments of the African, Central and South American population. The overall goal, he says, is "to demonstrate that making powerful tools more accessible to people allows them to build greater independence."

Dorsey said the program aims to go beyond teaching bitcoin to create conversations around "long-term thinking, local economies and self-confidence" to dispel potential concerns about favoritism or maximization of the leading crypto asset.

Dorsey and Jay-Z (personally known as Shawn Carter) are both established figures in the cryptocurrency and Web3 space. The former made strides in bringing cryptocurrencies to the spotlight in the Block and Cash apps, while Carter is synonymous with his CryptoPunk avatar and passion for blockchain art autonomy.
