Breaking News Between China and the U.S.! U.S. Orders Chinese Cryptocurrency Mining Company to Sell Property Near Military Base

On Monday, May 13, media outlets including U.S. Bloomberg and UK Reuters reported that the U.S. has declared a cryptocurrency mining investment company connected to China a national security threat and has ordered the company to divest its property near an Air Force base in Wyoming.

According to Bloomberg, the U.S. ordered a Chinese cryptocurrency mining company to evacuate and sell a property it had purchased near a Wyoming Air Force base that houses intercontinental ballistic missiles, declaring the company a threat to national security.

The White House stated in an order that MineOne Partners Limited, along with its affiliated units and companies, “may undertake actions that threaten to harm U.S. national security.” The company must divest the real estate it acquired in 2022 near the F.E. Warren Air Force Base.

The White House mentioned that in June 2022, MineOne, owned by Chinese citizens, and other companies collaborated to purchase this property for cryptocurrency mining operations, posing potential threats to U.S. national security.

MineOne's property is less than 1 mile from F.E. Warren Air Force Base, which stores U.S. nuclear missiles.

Reuters highlighted that this action is taken as the U.S. grows increasingly concerned about the national security risks from Chinese-led acquisitions of U.S. properties near sensitive military bases.

MineOne declined to comment on the news.

Bloomberg reported that federal and state government officials in the U.S. have issued warnings about a pattern of Chinese companies purchasing land near U.S. military facilities. Legislators in dozens of states have proposed bills to prohibit businesses and citizens connected to China from buying land near military bases.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) determined that this land acquisition posed a risk after a review.

The U.S. Treasury Department stated that MineOne had not submitted the transaction for review before completing the deal. MineOne must divest the real estate it acquired in 2022.

The White House said, "Foreign-owned properties close to U.S. strategic missile bases and critical elements of the U.S. nuclear triad, along with specialized and foreign procurement equipment that could potentially facilitate monitoring and espionage activities, pose a national security threat to the U.S."
