During the discussion last Saturday, I specifically mentioned two areas in the Ethereum ecosystem that I am paying attention to: one is Farcaster, and the other is Redstone.
I have introduced Farcaster.xyz in previous articles. It is an emerging application in the Ethereum ecosystem that focuses on social activities.
This application divides various topics into sections, covering multiple fields, including other fields such as technology and life in addition to the crypto ecosystem.
Some heavy players in the crypto ecosystem (such as Vitalik, the founder of Base, etc.) are hanging out here, and many have set up their own sections here.
This application is not much different from traditional social applications in terms of technology and model (although it also uses some elements of the crypto ecosystem). Its biggest feature, in my opinion, is that it has built an atmosphere that is highly compatible with crypto culture.
When you wander around these sections, you can feel the flavor of an early Bitcoin forum.
Many players have posted their own meme coins and NFTs here. Most of these seem to me to be very casual works. I suggest that you should not be too utilitarian when you encounter these coins. Don't buy a coin as soon as you see it, and imagine that it is the next 100-fold coin. Instead, pay more attention to the new applications and new scenarios that may be hidden in these topics based on your own interests.
This application gives me the feeling that the seed users in it are very sticky. Some small applications can easily spread rapidly due to the heavy participation and emotional fermentation of a small group of enthusiasts.
Redstone is an Ethereum second-layer extension based on OP technology.
Today, when second-layer extensions are everywhere, the feature of Redstone is not that it is another second-layer extension, but that the ecosystem it focuses on is the chain game ecosystem that has always attracted much attention in Ethereum. More importantly, the team behind this project, lattice.xyz, is an important builder of full-chain chain games in the Ethereum ecosystem.
I have introduced OP Craft, a full-chain game in the Optimism ecosystem in an early article. This game is similar to Minecraft, and the first version was launched in beta.
Although it is a beta version, it has attracted a large number of players in a very short time. These players built their own territories in this game and established a "crypto republic", turning this virtual world into the real world.
This game is very close to my expectations for full-chain chain games in the crypto ecosystem.
Unfortunately, the beta version was removed shortly after it went online. But this team left a very deep impression on me, they are lattice.xyz.
Since then, this team has been moving in the direction of full-chain chain games, such as developing development platforms and development tools to help users build their own games.
They also launched some experimental games on a small scale. But it is very unfortunate that they only invited a small number of people to participate in the testing of these games, so that the details of these games are not exposed to the public. It is also difficult for us to know the team's new ideas for the development and thinking of full-chain chain games later.
I have a very reserved attitude towards this approach. In my ideal, everything in the crypto ecosystem should be as open as possible and permissionless to participate. There should be no privileged groups or privileged classes here.
But reality always makes people very helpless. Although these practices make me feel awkward, it is difficult for me to find a second team that goes further and better than them in the full-chain chain game.
As for those so-called chain games with high production, high picture quality and high definition that are popular among big capital and big institutions, I don’t even have the desire to watch them, let alone think that those teams can make the full-chain chain games that I want.
Therefore, I have been paying attention to the development of this team.
On May 1st, they launched their own Ethereum second-layer extension and a series of games, tools, development environments, etc. related to chain games.
I don’t know whether this team can definitely break a new path in the full-chain chain game, but at least in the current ecology, I think their general direction is right and their ideas are very creative.
So I am very much looking forward to them moving forward in the direction of their envisioned second-layer extension.
